Biography

David Lacey is a Technology Director for the Royal Mail Group, with specific responsibility for Security and Risk Management. He has more than 30 years professional experience in IT, and over twenty years in Information Security management in both Government and Industry. Prior to joining Royal Mail, David worked in senior management positions for the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the Royal Dutch/Shell Group, following an early career in programming and business systems analysis.

David is a keen futurist and innovator, firmly believing that the best way to predict the future is to invent it. He played a major role in the development of the British Standard BS7799 and the associated certification schemes. Under his direction, both Shell and Royal Mail have achieved the largest scope BS7799 certifications in Europe. David currently leads a number of groundbreaking industry initiatives, including the development and coordination of new security architectures to enable secure, perimeter-less networking, as well as the use of computational immunology technology for the detection of fraud in large-scale information systems.

David serves on a number of professional industry advisory boards in the banking, postal and government sectors, including the APACS Security Advisory Group. He also chairs the Microsoft UK Chief Security Officers Council and is a founder member and leader of the Jericho Forum.
